I finished my first ever embroidery project (pattern is from @nickifranklin_needlework ) and I do believe I've acquired another little hobby. After several years of collecting charming photos of embroidered flowers on Pinterest and dreaming of doing it myself, I finally settled on something that felt like a doable project.

It's a delightfully chill way to keep my hands occupied or unwind in the evenings. And it feels like an excellent addition to my collection of low effort crafts for when I can't wrap my mind around working on something bigger.

In all seriousness though, it could be worse. It's kind of magical to see everything change so dramatically.

A few weeks ago I mentioned that I intended to divide this monstrous Hosta. I did eventually get around to the task, only a whole year after I had first considered it.

As you can see, it was absolutely enormous. So much so that none of the replanted divisions look particularly small in their new homes.

A couple nice things from the garden this month — this unknown rose (an Alba of some kind perhaps?) that I've been trying to train into an arch sans trellis blooms only once in the spring and the flowers look like they are made of buttercream. And some charming little rock iris that grow near afore mentioned rose.

The garden is running amuck, as usual. I haven't had much time to try to tame anything this month and with plenty of rain and sun everyone is growing like mad, including the weeds. Perhaps I'll have more time in June, or not. Everything will certainly keep growing regardless.

While I did not go out to collect this morning's dew from the Lady's Mantle leaves to wash my face, my May Day celebrations aren't entirely nonexistent. I did make a few little posies for May Day baskets. Snowball is a bit untraditional, but I haven't really got enough Lily of the Valley to make satisfying posies.

It's a bit late in the season, but I am considering dividing the Lily of the Valley as I write this. It's rather cramped in its current location and I suspect it would proliferate quite happily if given room to do so. This certainly isn't a priority right now, but what I actually end up doing in the garden differs rather a lot from the list of tasks I think are important.

My half-hearted attempt to rehome some Johnny Jump Ups that didn't bloom alongside the Tête-à-Têtes I planted them with. It was a charming idea... maybe next year.

Are these pots too small? Probably, but they had the major advantage of not being otherwise occupied so here we are.

Possibly my favorite wildflower — I've been fascinated with trilliums for as long as I can remember. I don't think I ever saw more than one blooming together for years, making them all the more elusive and intriguing. There's something mysterious about the years it takes for them to finally flower, their periodic years of dormancy, and impressive longevity.

I imagine there was a beautiful sleepy witch who woke up every few years to grace the world with her luminous face before returning to slumber, never letting on how old she was, or how much she knew. One day she fell asleep in the forest, and over the following years the leaves and moss covered her, keeping her cozy and warm while she slept, and when she woke again she was a trillium. Like Daphne being turned into a laurel, but with a lot less strife.

I have just made my very first bit of cordage from this year's paperwhites. Clearly there are some things I could improve upon, but I'm quite pleased with it as a first attempt.

So pleased, in fact, that I am going to collect the stems from the spent narcissus and tall dandelions to dry for future crafting or basketry. I haven't the slightest clue what I am doing, but it's quite fun nonetheless. Once the flowers faded I hung the stems to dry and then rehydrated them before twisting it all together. I'm looking forward to building a little collection of things made from fibers I collect from the garden.
